Senior Sports Day
Some of us may have ended up a little wet, but we had the absolute best time!!!
What a Pet!!!
Think we would all like a new pet after the Mobile Farm visited!!!
What a Great Owl Day!!!
We had the best day learning about these beautiful animals. We even got to hold them!!! Lots of fabulous memories made today!!!
The Littlest of Babies...
When our lovely Senior Infant comes up with a plan, you know it is going to be great fun! This super little lady has an incubator which she kindly brought into school for a couple of days. This was such a wonderful experience as not only did we get to meet one new friend, but six!!! He even got to go visiting around the school, carefully of course!!!
A Lawfully Good Day!!!
We were very fortunate to have the local Gardaí come to visit us in Third and Fourth Class. It was a really interesting afternoon and we got to ask lots of questions. Unfortunately, a few of us even got arrested!!!
It's Snow Day!!!
The only thing better than school, is school on a Snow Day!!!

It's Getting a Little Spooky Around Here...
Look who we rescued...
This fabulous young man is our very own animal whisperer. And this morning rescued this little guy from getting hurt. Before he popped him back safely into his nest he told us all about him, how old he was and the unusual features of an animal that we would rarely see. As you can guess, they were both a huge hit!!!
A Day with the Rangers...
We have the privilege of spending a couple of days learning some army survival techniques from these fascinating instructors. So if you need a filter, a fire lit or even a shelter for the night we are here to help! :)
It's Chess Day...
What a lovely way to spend our afternoon. Even better since our Outdoor Classroom has been finished and we get to play outside!!!
Senior Sports Day...
We had the absolute best day at Sports Day today. Lots of racing, lots of games and even a drop of water thrown in for good measure!!! :)
Budding Artist...
What could be better than commissioning an art piece from your very own student. This young lady is exceptionally talented and beyond generous with her time. She never fails to surprise us with her creations and now we are lucky enough to have one of our very own! Thank you so very much Kieva, it is just fabulous!
When The Reptiles Come To School...
It's Sports Day!!!
This week we had Sports Day for the Senior end of the school. We raced and jumped and hurdled and wheelbarrowed, as well as taking on The Cube, an obstacle course and a deadly game of tug of war. Our day was topped off with a visit from the ice cream van which was a great surprise (thank you Mr. Aherne). The highlight had to be a waterslide to cool ourselves off. We must thank Kevin for his addition of the hose which will very much made this a day not to forget! :)
*Flashback* Junior Infants School Tour 2016
I recently discovered these beautiful pictures of the current First Class children. It is incredible to see how much each of these little people have grown.

Incredible Edibles
A group of students across different classes under the supervision of the S.E.T.'s have been off discovering all about fruit and vegetables. We have put lots of effort into planting lots of seeds including lettuce, carrots and spinach. There are also some strawberries and potatoes, which are growing really well! We just cannot wait to eat them! :)
Track and Field - June 2018
Children from Fourth, Fifth and Sixth class headed for Tullamore to compete in an Athletics Track and Field event. Each class group took part in the 80m sprint, while Fourth competed in the 600m and the javelin competition, Fifth class took part in the 800m and the long jump and Sixth brought up the rear with the 1000m and high jump events. Each of the children tried their hardest with two of them even bringing home some silverware. Well done guys, ye were just superb (even if you did get lost trying to find the entrance) !

Positive Mental Health Day!
On Friday 19th May, the Amber Flag committee organised a Positive Mental Health Day for our school. The aim of the day was to create awareness about the importance of mental health and to encourage all of the students of The Rock NS to be able to say positive things about themselves and their peers. We had lots of different activities on the day which the committee organised. Everybody wore something yellow or orange as these are colours we think of when we feel happy and upbeat. First of all, we had a guest speaker, Finola Colgan from Mental Health Ireland, come to talk to 5th and 6th class about positive mental health.
The committee then organised an exercise experiment called 'Exercise and play will improve your day'. They had a feelings box with four coloured bowls containing coloured squares: red for angry, yellow for happy, blue for sad, green for worried. Each person had to think about how they were feeling before exercising and put the appropriate coloured square into the feelings box, which were then counted by committee members. Everybody went outside, completed the activities and then repeated this feelings game on the way back inside. Our committee discovered that exercise and outdoor games made a huge impact on our level's of happiness and put us in a much better mood :)
For the last part of our day, each child in the school had to take a piece of coloured card and write something positive about themselves, here's what they had to say:
Congratulations to the committee for organising such a successful day and for being so helpful towards Ms Walsh and Ms Molloy.
